Istebna is ideally situated in the Beskid mountains and has been very popular for many years with Polish skiers. With its close proximity to Krakow international airport (just over two hours away) as well as other airports such as Katowice, Poprad (Slovakia) and, even closer, Ostrava Airport just across the border in Czech Republic (http://www.airport-ostrava.cz/en/), this area is accessible via many international flights.
You may be asking yourself "what is the advantage in going skiing in Poland?". The answer is simple. Firstly, there are so many cheap flights available to Krakow and Katowice. Secondly, compared to the traditional Alpine resorts and even some of the 'new' ski resorts this area is much less expensive in terms of ski hire, ski lift passes, groceries and dining out. This particular area also boasts excellent snowfall records so, where some resorts are finding the season getting shorter, there always seems to be plenty of snow in the Beskid mountains. Why not give it a try? .
please note. If you are intending to a hire a car to drive to Istebna for skiing from either of the airports, don't forget to specify they should fit snow tyres.
